rain.

enjoying the sounds and smells of a very soothing and calm late afternoon rain shower; one of my favorite parts about late spring in the midwest.

i spent the day around the house getting things situated in my last few days here before i leave. planted some morning glorys on the east side of our house and i'm excited to see what they will be when i return in august. filled some pots for the end of our driveway to live next to that purple stuff that blooms all summer and some dark red lilies that don't bloom until the end of july or later. the big pot will hopefully sprout some snapdragons (the tall ones) in the center where i planted the seeds.

other than that i've been cleaning, dusting, vacuuming, scrubbing, and everything else to get this house ready for 3 months of bachelor-pad-ness. (don't worry about the flowers while i'm gone, the hubs is usually the one who remembers to water them anyways). i'm feeling quite relaxed after a day of elbow grease and dirty fingernails.

i was way overdue, 3 years, for a free phone upgrade. and since my old, trusty phone only held a battery charge for about 12 hours it was time for a new phone. i splurged and added texting to my previously talk only plan but i'm debating about it still.

i also chose to go to the store to get my phone instead of ordering online because i like the person-to-person service. do you think texting is wrong for me?

hmmm, it's a conundrum for sure.....

pw's pinapple-chicken quesadillas

put the chicken in the pan to cook and went online to look up a recipe for sweet-and-sour chicken because i had some fresh pinapple in the fridge. when i got to pw's cooking page to find a link to the tasty kitchen, her headline was these quesadillas. i made a few modifications to her original recipe; used pepper-jack cheese and sharp cheddar cheese, and added green onions. to season my chicken i used salt, pepper, chili powder, garlic powder, and cumin. shoot, i just realized i forgot to add the bbq sauce! man, that would have been good.

it was tasty though! :)

family fun

had a chance to take some family photos of our good friends. i think they turned out pretty cute. i'm getting really excited to learn more about photography so i can come back and do another photo shoot and see what i learned. enjoy the photos!

lilacs

our lilacs are always late bloomers because they are the miniature variety, i forget the exact name, and they only get afternoon sun. i wish i had a smell-o-puter so i could share their lovely fragrance with you. it's a beautiful sunny day today so i chopped some off the bushes to bring inside.

yesterday was quite productive for me. i did laundry, dishes, packing, cleaning, sorting, and other prep work for my summer away. right now i'm looking at a pair of purple finches and a morning dove sitting on my deck. it reminded me of my visit with my grandparents this past friday. we sat on their patio and saw gold finches, purple finches, cardinals, orioles, and another red bird that i didn't know what it was.
