gracie's apron

i was going to make a funny bunny but i decided to make an apron instead. i used this as a guide for size because i have no idea how big a 2-year-old is. i think she's smaller than most but that's ok because it will fit her for longer.

i used canvas for the front and cotton for the back. i added a pocket with the same fabric as the lining and wish i would have added a canvas pocket in the back so it could be reversible. instead of making ties out of fabric i just used grosgrain ribbon. i also flared the pattern from 6" at the top to 8" at the bottom as suggested.

happy 2nd birthday gracie! i hope you'll like your new apron!

the story of the kindle case

kindle1

kindle2

after 4 re-designs and several failed attempts, i finally completed a case for my new (free, thanks to my sis-in-law!) kindle. i like the one i ended up with, however, if i were to make another i would do a few things different.

first, i would use velcro instead of a bow-tie to secure it closed. second, i would figure out a way to have an elastic band at the top to hold the kindle in place. and third, i would make the pocket just a little bit bigger so it wouldn't slip out as much.

but i think it's pretty cute, and compared to the first two i made it's way more functional (the kindle actually fits inside!)

read about the original design here.

i'm in love....

....with my new boots. i am so not against leather and fur things and these boots are exactly why. beautiful ostrich and calf leather that make up these fabulous boots.

i'm loving how feminine they are even with the square toe (lucchese tw toe). i've had them on my feet almost all day. it makes me smile. and they smell so good....

reality....

winter 2010

so after dreaming about summer and enjoying a little warm-up last week, winter reminded us of reality by dumping off 4 inches of snow. i have to appologize for my lack of creativity lately but i'm sharing with you a more realistic wardrobe for the next 6 weeks (it probably won't get 'warm' for at least that long).

i have to admit that i haven't even picked up the camera to take creative photos for at least a week and a half :( trying to re-vamp the house listing with new photos and new incentives so we can hopefully sell soon. and the neighbors moving semi-trailer parked in the street today did not help my attitude.

next week i hope to get a new piece of technology (free from my sis-in-law!) that will need a homemade case - i'm brainstorming already! and a small project for a little girl's 2nd birthday before the weekend is on the to-do list.

tomorrow it's off to visit my sister and niece for the day so hopefully the camera will get the dust brushed off.

hang in there with me and i'll get back to creating soon!
